
The town of Münsingen consists of 13 formerly independent municipalities. By uniting the municipalities to form one district, the population has trebled in size to 14,500 since 1970. The integrated districts are mainly small farming communities. The municipality reform began in Münsingen with the town’s restructuring on 1st July 1971. At that stage it consisted of Münsingen, Auingen, Böttingen and Dottingen. By t1st January 1975 the districts of Apfelstetten, Bichishausen, Bremelau, Buttenhausen, Gundelfingen with Dürrenstetten, Hundersingen, Magolsheim, Rietheim and Trailfingen had also been added.
