Castles in the Lauter valley
The Lauter valley in the Swabian Alb is visually beautiful and rich in history. It is one of the regions with the highest density of castles in south-western Germany. Between the well-spring of the river in Offenhausen and the estuary at Lauterach, there are no less than 20 castles and sites of castles as well as two prehistoric, fortified dwellings.
With such a varied history, the castles still offer visitors plenty to see. Downriver in Münsingen and the surrouding areas, the following castles can be visited:
